George Rodrigue began his career by portraying on his canvas the Cajuns of South Louisiana and what he feared was his dying heritage – including its oak trees, people, traditions, and mythology.  He sought to “graphically interpret the Cajun culture,” preserving it in the face of a progressive world.

Beginning in the early 1990s Rodrigue’s Blue Dog Series, based on the French-Cajun loup-garou legend, became an internationally known icon of pop art and catapulted the artist to worldwide recognition. Also, during his late career, Rodrigue created abstract explosions of color that he called Hurricanes. Learn more about the artist.
