On October 21, 2024, we celebrated an incredible “Blue Carpet” North American premiere at the Orpheum Theater in New Orleans for Blue: The Life and Art of George Rodrigue. We are thrilled to announce that the film won the Southern Feature Audience Award at this year’s New Orleans Film Festival! Thank you to everyone who joined us and to all who voted—this recognition is truly humbling. Enjoy a few special moments from the premiere below.
The evening was brought to life by the musical talents of Louis Michot and the Lost Bayou Ramblers, who scored the film and entertained the more than 500 guests in attendance. Their performance added a vibrant touch, blending perfectly with the celebration of George Rodrigue’s Cajun roots, life and art.
A special thanks goes out to the New Orleans Film Festival for selecting Blue as part of the 2024 lineup, and to Humana, the North American Premiere title sponsor, for helping make the night unforgettable.
Couldn’t join us? Don’t worry! The journey continues with the broadcast premiere set for December 8 on Louisiana Public Broadcasting & WLAE-TV, with additional screenings planned across the United States. By next spring, Blue will also be available for streaming on PBS, making George Rodrigue’s life and art accessible to audiences nationwide.
Until then, stay tuned for more! Be sure to follow the film’s official Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on other U.S. premieres, broadcast dates, behind-the-scenes footage, and more from Blue: The Life and Art of George Rodrigue!
