“Spring Adds Color to My Life” released after first posthumous print sells-out in five days
NEW ORLEANS—On April 28th, 2014 the Estate of George Rodrigue announced the release of “Spring Adds Color to My Life,” the second print to be released by the artist’s studio since his passing on December 14, 2013. The silkscreen was designed by George Rodrigue before his death and has been printed posthumously in a limited numbered edition of 450.
This edition is now SOLD OUT.
“We were so overwhelmed by the success of the ‘Mardi Gras 2014’ silkscreen print,” says Jacques Rodrigue, son of George Rodrigue. “It was the first posthumous release of an Estate Edition Blue Dog and Dad would have loved that they sold out in just five days. My family and I are happy that we can continue to release these prints that Dad designed and intended to be enjoyed by his fans and collectors.”
George Rodrigue painted the original painting “Spring Adds Color to My Life” and three other 40×60 paintings in June 2013 (pictured, June 15, 2013, outside the Carmel, CA, studio). Over the coming years, the Estate of George Rodrigue will be releasing a series of silkscreen prints based on all four of these paintings. “Spring Adds Color to My Life” is the first in the series.
The Estate of George Rodrigue created a proprietary ink to stamp on editions of prints released by the Rodrigue Estate. The one-of-a-kind ink formula includes several security measures that guarantee the authenticity of Rodrigue Estate editions. The stamp measures approximately 1.5 x 3 inches and is screened directly onto prints issued by the Rodrigue Estate. This signature ink reacts uniquely to differing wavelengths of light.
