Rivers are a running theme throughout George Rodrigue’s 45-year career. For this special visit to the Louisiana Children’s Museum, part of an ongoing Life & Legacy Tour for the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts, Wendy Rodrigue shares her late husband’s artwork and stories, complementing the museum’s new exhibition, “Riverworks.”
In this unique presentation, appropriate for all ages, Wendy will relate the history of Rodrigue’s paintings to the mystique of Louisiana’s waterways.
Bayous, like roads, indicate movement, and for the Cajuns the Bayou Teche was the center of activity. Bayou Teche, the Indian name for ‘winding snake,’ was the soul of the Cajun; thus I convey the floating quality of the people as they moved with the Teche.It was their pathway to the rest of the world.Everything came to the Cajuns through the bayous, particularly the Bayou Teche. –George Rodrigue
