730 Royal Street
New Orleans, LA

The Rodrigue Family —including Wendy, André, and Jacques— invites you to an opening reception for “Rodrigue: Blue Dog for President.”  This all-American installation marks the 20th anniversary of a landmark similar “Blue Dog for President” exhibition held in Washington D.C.’s Union Station during the 1996 U.S. Presidential Election.

George Rodrigue demonstrated his patriotism often within his paintings.  In the book The Cajuns of George Rodrigue (1976, Oxmoor House) he wrote, “I have a series of paintings showing the American flag to reveal the strong national pride of the Cajun.  He wanted to be a part of something; he wanted a country; he wanted to be an American.”

Twenty-five years later, Rodrigue’s God Bless America (on view in this exhibition) raised $500,000 for the American Red Cross following 9/11/01.  “I am proud to be from the United States of America”, stated the artist.  “It is our spirit, strong in the symbol of our flag, which will mend our broken hearts and allow us to use these events to strengthen our courage and compassion.”

This special exhibition includes patriotic paintings spanning forty years, including Rodrigue’s strong red, white & blue designs from his Blue Dog Series, his famous Washington Blue Dog, featuring the U.S. Capitol and the White House, his iconic portraits of Louisiana Governors Huey Long and Earl Long, and U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton— paintings commissioned by the Republican and Democratic parties.

RSVP to Rodrigue Studio at 504.581.4244 or [email protected]. Reception includes wine and light hors d’oeurvres.

Exhibition continues through December 31, 2016.
