Rodrigue Foundation donates 15 Steinway pianos to LSU School of Music

10632775_10152965013936719_4901005949968001348_nThank you to everyone that purchased the now sold out “Take Five” print. Your purchase made it possible to donate 15 Steinway pianos to the LSU School of Music.

On Monday, December 1, Jacques Rodrigue presented the LSU School of Music with 15 upright Steinway pianos, a move that kicks off the School of Music’s five-year plan to refresh its piano inventory.

The donation, plus an additional five pianos purchased with funds from the LSU Foundation, will go a long way in fulfilling the school’s goals, said School of Music dean Todd Queen.

“Our Louisiana music is so special and so unique, and it’s because of learning institutions like LSU that protect it for generations to come,” said Rodrigue’s son and executive director of the George Rodrigue Foundation for the Arts Jacques Rodridgue.

In addition to these 15 Steinways, the LSU School of Music staff aims to obtain 21 new Steinway grands, repair 18 more Steinway grands and replace an additional 30 practice pianos by 2019.

“The need for practice pianos is not always evident. These pianos are behind closed doors, and it’s the students who see them,” said Steven Kinchen of the Hall Piano Company.

Piano is the only required instrument for all students in the LSU School of Music, making quality practice instruments an imperative part of their learning, development and future.
