Above everything else, George Rodrigue had fun with his art. In 2000, he told Bryant Gumbel of CBS that he thought combining the strong image of the Blue Dog with those strong graphic images that surrounded Christmas, would be fun. The result was 22 silkscreen prints that depicted the Blue Dog enjoying the best of the season, including a Blue Dog snowman, gifts, candy canes, toy soldiers, candles, Christmas trees, and of course Santa Claus.

The silkscreens, each released in a hand-signed edition of 150, were included in the book, Blue Dog Christmas, published by Stewart, Tabor & Chang in 2000.
