For this special event, Wendy Rodrigue shares a selection of original George Rodrigue paintings of women, including Evangeline, Jolie Blonde, and more, from the artist’s archives and the couple’s private collection. Her presentation includes personal stories from her life with George Rodrigue, as well as an in depth analysis of his paintings.
Throughout his career, Rodrigue depicted women from local legends as well as those from reality. The enchanting mystique of Evangeline and Jolie Blonde inspired him hundreds of times. He painted them using numerous models — some he knew personally, some he only knew of, and others were drawn completely from his imagination.
The evening includes an unveiling of Rodrigue’s A Basket of Roses, a stunning silkscreen print of Evangeline donated by the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts for permanent installation in the LSU Women’s Center.
“George Rodrigue Life & Legacy” shares the life and art of George Rodrigue (1944-2013) through exhibitions of original artwork from his archives, as well as vignettes, quotes, background, and memorabilia from the artist himself. Projects include museum exhibitions, education initiatives, an ongoing public lecture series, and written and online publications.
