In the artist\u2019s chair sits the Blue Dog like a person —like the artist himself. \u00a0Painted in a uniform bright blue, the dog contrasts with the painterly, more natural world around it. \u00a0The easel holds a typical, yet unfinished early Rodrigue landscape painting. \u00a0Through the window is a finished landscape, full of color and hope, like a brand new day.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes I incorporate the Blue Dog with the old Cajun landscape that I used to paint. \u00a0But I put a new twist on it, relating the contemporary Blue Dog to the old style. \u00a0I like to look back…<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUnlike the black bayous and dark trees of my early Cajun paintings, I use color to reflect a modern Louisiana. \u00a0In the art world, the use of color, especially flat, bright color, is modern in the Pop Art vein. \u00a0I contrast the two styles, making both the dog and the overall composition more important.\u201d \u00a0-G.R.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

About this special and traditional print-making process, Rodrigue explained,<\/span> \u201cUnlike my silkscreens, this print comes from an original painting. \u00a0I also worked with fifteen other artists and craftsmen to make this happen. \u00a0Each person specializes in a different field including separating the colors, etching the stone, and hand-printing the colors individually, layered one on top of the other, creating a continuous tone image similar to an original painting.\u201d <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
