Carmel gallery to re-open with a survey of George Rodrigue\u2019s work curated by the Rodrigue family and New Orleans Museum of Art Director Emeritus E. John Bullard\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On Saturday, March 15th, 2014 George Rodrigue Studio in Carmel, CA (West Side of Dolores between\u00a0Ocean and 7th) will re-open with a memorial retrospective of the artist\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

A public opening reception will be held from 1:00\u00a0PM to 3:00 PM<\/em> and will include remarks from Jacques Rodrigue, son of George Rodrigue and Executive\u00a0Director of the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts<\/a>. The retrospective will be on view at the gallery through\u00a02014.<\/p>\n

“Dad always said that when he was in art school at Art Center in Los Angeles in the 1960’s he dreamed of\u00a0opening a gallery in Carmel. He realized his dream over 20 years ago and he loved to live and paint at his\u00a0home in Carmel Valley.\u201d Says Jacques Rodrigue. \u201cMy family and I are excited to be able to share this show\u00a0with the area that was so important to him and for the first time display works in our gallery from his entire\u00a0career.”<\/p>\n

The retrospective will include works of art and ephemera spanning Rodrigue\u2019s illustrious career and life\u00a0focusing on his time in California. The Rodrigue family and Bullard have curated an unparalleled survey of Los\u00a0Angeles Art Center art school works, early Louisiana landscapes, Cajun portraits, iconic Blue Dogs, paintings\u00a0completed in California, and personal memorabilia from George Rodrigue\u2019s home and studio in Carmel.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the death of George Rodrigue, our state and nation have lost one of its most unique, popular and\u00a0memorable visual artists. For nearly fifty years he created an extraordinary body of work that captured the\u00a0special qualities of Louisiana’s Cajun culture, bringing national and international recognition to his heritage and\u00a0to himself.\u201d Said E. John Bullard, Director Emeritus of the New Orleans Museum of Art who co-curated the\u00a0exhibit with the Rodrigue family.<\/p>\n

The Rodrigue Gallery in Carmel resumed normal operating hours: Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to\u00a06:00PM and Sunday from 12:00PM to 5:00PM. The Rodrigue family has released a limited number of prints\u00a0and mixed media works for sale through the gallery.<\/p>\n
