GEORGE RODRIGUE MEMORIAL RETROSPECTIVE ON VIEW UNTIL JANUARY 2015<\/b>
\nOn Thursday, January 23rd,\u00a0\u00a0George Rodrigue Studio in Lafayette<\/a>\u00a0(1434 S. College Rd.) will re-open with a memorial retrospective of the artist’s work curated by his family and New Orleans Museum of Art Director Emeritus E. John Bullard. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A public opening reception will be held from\u00a01:00 PM to 3:00 PM<\/strong>\u00a0and will include remarks from Jacques Rodrigue, son of George Rodrigue and Executive Director of the\u00a0George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts<\/a>. The retrospective will be on view at the gallery until further notice.<\/p>\n

“Dad always said that if he was not from the Acadiana area that he probably would have never been an artist,” says Jacques Rodrigue. \u00a0“It was the Cajun culture and our heritage that inspired him to paint. \u00a0That is why my family is delighted to share some of my father’s most important works, many of which were painted in Lafayette, at this memorial retrospective.”<\/p>\n

The retrospective will include works of art and ephemera spanning Rodrigue\u2019s illustrious career and life. The Rodrigue family and Bullard have curated an unparalleled survey of experimental art school works, early landscapes, works from the \u201cCajuns\u201d series, portraits, iconic Blue Dogs, and personal memorabilia from George Rodrigue\u2019s home and studio.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the death of George Rodrigue, our state and nation have lost one of its most unique, popular and memorable visual artists. \u00a0For nearly fifty years he created an extraordinary body of work that captured the special qualities of Louisiana’s Cajun culture, bringing national and international recognition to his heritage and to himself.\u201d Said E. John Bullard, Director Emeritus of the New Orleans Museum of Art who co-curated the exhibit with the Rodrigue family.<\/p>\n

The Rodrigue Gallery in Lafayette will resume normal operating hours on Friday, January 24th: Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00PM and Saturday from 12:00PM to 5:00PM.
