In the early 2000s, George Rodrigue began hosting events called Rodrigue Client Weekends. These events allowed clients of his galleries the chance to socialize, gain deeper insight into his creative process, and experience something new. An early version of one of these events occurred at Rodrigue\u2019s home studio in Carmel, California.<\/p>\n

Nine years after opening his gallery in Carmel, Rodrigue purchased a home in the California town. He built a studio on the property where he would spend countless hours painting. Occasionally, he would invite clients over to watch him work\u2014Untitled (To Jayne From Rich) results from one of those home studio visits. Rodrigue spent about an hour filling a blank canvas with this image as his guests, including Jayne and Rich Brinton, looked on.<\/p>\n

When Rodrigue finished his painting demonstration, Jayne expressed to Rich how much she loved the painting. Rich eventually arranged to purchase the work but had to wait for Rodrigue to perfect the canvas. Even though the work looked complete to his audience, Rodrigue often spent time touching up his demonstration paintings. And in this case, he also added the personalized inscription for the Brintons.<\/p>\n

The painting features a Blue Dog with a swirling background and a single yellow flower. The swirls are notable because it is around this time that Rodrigue began his Hurricane series. The Hurricane<\/em> paintings feature swirling bursts of bold colors similar to the pink and yellow swirls in this painting. Although Rodrigue did most of his painting in Carmel, Louisiana was never far from his mind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
