By 2001, following ten widely published books, plus large-scale projects for Neiman Marcus, Absolut Vodka, and Xerox Corporation, the Blue Dog was a well-established international Pop icon. In this dynamic work, Rodrigue paints the Blue Dog like a California movie star, its headshot backed not by the artist\u2019s typical flat Louisiana Landscape, but rather by the Hollywood Hills.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the airport, I never expected two crazy women in a limo,\u201d wrote Rodrigue alongside this painting in Blue Dog Love (Stewart, Tabori, & Chang, 2001), referring to a humorous, sunglasses-adorned \u2018Hollywood-like groupies\u2019 1993 encounter in San Jose, California, with Sandra Crake and Rodrigue\u2019s future wife, Wendy Wolfe, both of Galerie Blue Dog, Carmel-by-the-Sea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
