Part of his Dark Period or Dream Series, the glowing painting Black and Blues emerged during Rodrigue’s post-Katrina period, following more than a year of exclusively relief-related artwork.  The series speaks of cautious optimism, as though the Blue Dog pulls itself together on canvas even as Rodrigue and others dared to believe that New Orleans would pull through.
