George Rodrigue (b. 1944) is well known for his series of Blue Dog paintings. However, early Rodrigue paintings consisted of images from his Louisiana and Cajun heritage (landscapes, oak trees, swamps and scenes of music, food and festivals). Since these early paintings, Rodrigue has taken the Blue Dog, originally derived from the legend of the Loup Garou (a Cajun bogeyman), on a 25 year journey of exploration in order to comment on life today.
